[About the speaker]:

Dr. Yang Huanming is currently serving as a researcher and President of Shenzhen BGI. As the distinguished alumnus of Southeast University, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, the foreign academician of the Academy of Sciences of the United States, Germany, India, andthe Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, the foreign member of European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), he was awarded “2002 World Science Leader” by “Scientific American” magazine in 2002, the “Biology Award” of TWAS in 2006, and the “Excellent Scientific Achievement Award” by International Human Genome Organization (HUGO) in 2010 and many other honors and awards.

[Reasons for recommendation]:

   The establishment of the DNA double helix model and the completion of the International Human Genome Project (HGP), the emergence of technologies related to “omics” and its scale, industrialized and intelligentized development are changing our understanding of life at an unprecedented speed and depth. It also affects our thinking about mankind in the future, especially our thinking about the future ecology, food and health, etc.. Academician Yang Huanming, one of the main contributors to China's participation in the International Human Genome Project 20 years ago and the distinguished alumnus of Southeast University, is invited to interact and share with us his predictions and concerns about the development of omics and the future of mankind.
